Terre a Terre is by far the best restaurant I have ever been to. I had Tandoori Tattie - potato rosti, with dahl, tandoori halloumi, mango salad and yoghurt and coriander. My cousin had a veggie version of fish and chips - Better Batter - buttermilk soaked halloumi in crispy batter with lemony yemeni relish, minty mushy peas, vodka spiked tomatoes, pickled quails eggs and sea weed tartare sauce with chips. Stunning! More expensive than normal restaurant but big portions and absolutely worth every penny. Who could resist a restaurant that has a dessert called "Bum"?

The restaurant was very busy and mistakes happen. There aren’t many places you would forgive for forgetting your order and making you wait 50 minutes. I didn’t forgive them completely - a lunch for two people shouldn’t take over two hours - but the food was as sublime as ever. It’s not cheap, but almost-perfection rarely is. We were given a bowl of olives to nibble on “on the house” but no adjustment was made to our bill, which was just shy of £60. We had two soft drinks, a starter, main meal and pudding. A lot of arty types live here, so you may be unlucky and have a media bore next to you, regaling his tales of renovating his house, which is now worth at least 900 kay. The place has a slightly bohemian feel to it - wooden floors and dreadlocks seem to go hand in hand - but it’s squeaky clean - and I was glad to see Faith in Nature products in the toilet. A signed copy of their new cookbook is available for £20.

TaT is AMAZING! I first went here with my fiance who is a meat eater and was worried he wouldn't find anything he would eat...no problem there we had a tapas to start with and I had the rosti which is my fav meal on the menu. The staff are very helpful they will take their time going over everything so you understand what you are eating! I have been back so many times and will carry on going, its the best veggie restaurant in Brighton.

TaT is consistently good; in nine years of coming here I've yet to have a bad meal. I like the ambience and the layout; sliding doors were flung open to let in the welcome sun and tables are well spaced so you don't have to listen in to someone else's conversation. Children are well cared for and welcome, with high chairs and the option of sharing an adult's meal.
Our starter of tofu with mustard and hoisin was as delectable as usual. I always have a vegan main as the cooking is stunning; cold soba noodles with cashews. Mr Big had his potato fix for the day; rosti with creamed spinach. Both were washed down with interesting drink options. We skipped dessert; at £7 a pop a bit too pricey for lunch. They are introducing some credit crunchy specials from the end of the month, according to their website. Friendly, efficient service.
Visited T&T for the first time recently and really enjoyed the whole experience (from the fully automated table booking to finishing our meal).
The battered halloumi chesse, served with chunky chips and a pea mash, was delicious and well worth the £13.
The flavour of the rosti, although tasty, was a little confused. The menu was not as clear as we would have liked.
The staff were uniformly helpful and nice. We had a lovely time and would definitely go again.

Terre a Terre are running two promotional menus so Veggie Places went along to try the Munch Crunch menu.
The offer is three courses for £12.00, with a choice of starter, main and dessert. They run until 31st March (with some conditions).
I started with the Northern Rocky Rasam. This is an Indian influenced soup which is served with a mustard seed rice muffin. As with all Terre a Terre dishes the presentation was stunning. The soup came in a small glass cup, with the muffin perched on top. It was prevented from falling into the soup by a strategically placed poori.
The soup was quite thin - similar to Indian sambar but quite delicious. I find Terre á Terre hold back with the seasoning so the curry flavour was medium/mild rather than
fiery as some Indian soups can be. The muffin was still warm when it arrived and when I tore it open it appeared quite dense. So it was with some surprise that when I bit in to it, it was light and airy and simply delicious.
For my main course I chose the Spaghetti Spin and Ed Balls. Again the presentation was flawless. The spaghetti was on the left of the plate topped with the gremoulata and the Ed Balls were placed to the right on the sauce. I know from previous times I have eaten at Terre á Terre that portion size can be deceptive and so it was proving as I ate my way through this meal. After my first course with the curry flavours this was the other extreme. A very subtle, rich mushroom truffle cream sauce nicely balanced by the sharpness of the olives. It is not a combination I would have put together but it works and is one of the reasons why I like to eat here.
I finished off with the truffle plate. Home made truffles- what can beat that? Well in this case nothing. I had them with a coffee (not part of the meal deal) which was excellent in its own right.
Was taken here on a first date by a non vegetarian, both had never been to a vegetarian restaurant even though I am one.
managed to get a table but would recommend booking. Friendly staff who were willing to explain unknown dishes. original decor, met expectations.
Loved the food, asparagus souffle was lush. Appropriate sized portions which left us both stuffed! in particular, the dessert of 'boiled egg and chunky soliders' is a must to try (you'll love it)
Wasn't too expensive.
Only critisism is waiting time between course but that is mainly due to the busyness of the restaurant.
Both would go back again to experience other dishes on offer.

Been here loads of times, its my favourite place in Brighton. The terre a tapas is a good one to try if you have never been before. My experience of the rosti on a previous visit did not mirror what was said in anothe review, it was delicious. I particularly remember a lovely smoked cheese souffle on one occasion but my favourite is the cigar shaped dougnuts with chocolate dipping sauce and vodka soaked cherries; it is divine and also vegan. Its not cheap, and yes the menu does take some deciphering, but for a special occasion it is really worth it. ABSOLUTELY essential to book Friday and Saturday nights and special occasions such as Valentines Day.

I have eaten vegan all over the world and this is definitely the best. Lovely surroundings, really friendly staff and food that is simply sublime. I have eaten so many wondrful things there it's impossible to mention them all but the 'Vegan Tapas' plate is great and lots of food for two. Ok, it's not cheap but you do get what you pay for and, believe me, this is the best.
Have to say, I do wonder whether the person who felt the place looked like a 'chain' was even in the right restaurant????

Veggie Places comment:
"Paul Morgan, the manager at Terre e Terre has asked to be put in touch with the reviewer regarding her experiences. He points out that the rosti is always served with a sauce on top, as per the menu. The bang bang chips are hand made every day with a special mix of seven different spices that is also made daily. Customers with special dietary needs, over and above vegetarian, expecting a choice, should contact the restaurant beforehand if possible to discuss their requirements, or at the very least, ask to speak to the manager about possible alternatives. Prices are clearly marked on the menu and on the comprehensive live menus on the website."
Review:
This place came recommended (not only by the reviews on this website) but as soon as we got there it was a disappointment. The interior looks like a pub chain - and not a good one either. The place was nearly empty (it was a Sunday night though) and too brightly lit so it had no atmosphere whatsover. We went outside to feel a little cosier (!) and this area was quite nice. Waiting staff were lovely but basically just told us what we'd already read on the menu. We're both wheat free/dairy free so we only had one choice of main dish. My partner had something with wheat in in the end and thought it was ok but my rosti was just thrown together as though they'd never made the dish wheatfree/vegan before (although the option was on the menu) Rosti should be crispy but had soggy spinach on top so it became soggy, a really bad sauce - I don't know what it was. We got some bang bang chips as a side and these had definitely come out of a packet. I could really go on... basically the worst but at the same time most expensive vegetarian meal I've ever had - 2 main meals, one side dish (of chips) 1 glass of wine and 1 bottle of beer - £45!!!!! Never again, and I suggest no one else goes there either. We stayed at Paskins b&b - breakfast was great, ate lunch at Infinity cafe - amazing. Just don't go to Terre a Terre!

I was disappointed when I was taken here by my son who loves it. The portions seemed small and the cost rather high. I decided not to bother again . However I MUST PRAISE the excellent chocolate /fruit gateau that Terre a Terre made for another son's wedding. It was like a Black Forest gateau with cherries/strawberries on top -out of this world!they managed to produce it in a rush when my son was let down at the last minute (2/3 days)by Food for friends.

Wow! What can you say. Veggie fine dining and hardly a lentil in sight. We visited early on a weekday evening and had our choice of tables. The menus are very wordy and describe every last bit of the dish (they should really leave them with you so you can work out which bit of the dish is which!) The presentation is pretty amazing (some might say a bit over the top) but this really is meat-free michelin star type food. The service was great, the waiting staff were very knowledgable. Oh, and you must have the pudding tapas...

I've been visiting TaT for a good few years. Wanted to take a group of friends there as I knew they'd love it.
Unfortunately, it took several phone calls to secure a table. Initially I was told we could only have a table at 7 o'clock or 9 o'clock. Neither of which suited us. This wasn't because the restaurant was full, I made the enquiry several weeks in advance. Then we were told they had a 2-hour turn around. This is one of my pet peeves anyway, but as there were eight of us travelling from London especially to go to TaT, and it was supposed to be a celebratory meal (and not a cheap night out!) I didn't want us to be rushed.
Eventually, they kindly let us have the table at the time we wanted, and promised we wouldn't be thrown out after two hours!
As always, the food was sublime! Couldn't fault a thing. Well, actually, I could; the menu. It's so complicated as to be hysterical. We didn't understand some of the wording, and it errs on the pretentious side.
Our waitress was charming and expert. As it turned out, we ended up having to hurry them to get us the bill as we had to sprint for the train back to London.
One of the puddings is a box of the most delicious truffles. We bought one to take away and eat on the train home - a lovely end to a glorious evening.
Terre a Terre is still one of my favourite restaurants.

Terre a terre does not have the word "vegetarian" in its name and there is no mention of it being vegetarian on the signage. That is what I like about it - it's so normal. Vegetarians want to eat in a good restaurant like anyone else; the food contains no meat or fish. So what?
Stripped pine floors, modern decor, good lighting; the place was practically throbbing on the Saturday night we attended. A table could not be had until 10pm - even then we had to wait in the bar for 10 minutes - people obviously do not want to leave this place!
It's a slick operation - a digital read out advises which table's food is ready in the lift; the barman is able to fetch your bill instead of having to defer to the waitress.
Our food was excellent - the tofu starter I had was the best I've tasted and my main meal was straight out of a coffee table cook book.
Smoking is allowed in some areas of this huge one room place - but extraction is so good it is not in the least smokey.
Even the price was reasonable - two starters, two mains, a drink each and coffee for less than 40 quid.
This has got to be the nearest thing to perfection. The fact that it's vegetarian is almost incidental. I urge you to go.
