The Beech Café is part of the Sustainability Centre, which is well worth a visit in its own right, not least for its very attractive 55-acre grounds on the edge of the South Downs between Petersfield and Horndean.
The café is open from 10.00 till 4.00 on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's a small, simple, relaxed establishment with a couple of very large wooden tables inside and some benches outside.
On the day we went, there were three main courses and several home-made cakes. At least one of the main courses is always vegan, as well as some of the cakes. Sandwiches, ice cream, tea, coffee and soft drinks are also available.
I had the nut roast (£4-50, served with bread, crisps and freshly-made salad), which was first-class.
This splendid establishment is a real "find" (not least because it's the nearest vegetarian eatery to where I live!), and we will certainly return.
