Our second visit was better than the first - which is saying something. Lovely food again - for evening meals Richard and Sandra took account of my loathing of celery and olives. Great service and very friendly - especially the four new rescued dogs (see website for photo). Hope to go again in a year or two.

Just a quick note to say a very sincere thank you to all who voted us 'Best Vegan Accommodation' in the Vegan Society 2008 awards. It means a lot to us as that's exactly what we try to be!

My wife and I stayed for five nights and couldn't have felt more welcome. Lovely breakfasts (some with very friendly company) and an eye for detail made our stay very enjoyable. We only took one evening meal, which was imaginative and filling (too much for me), but I did make sure I finished the sticky toffee pudding. Richard was a mine of information on the local pub... that must be where "mine host" comes from...

The setting is very handy for the new forest, and within easy reach of Winchester and Salisbury (as well as the more obvious Southampton).

A final note - my wife (veggie) found the home made soya milk ok in coffee - the first time ever!!

I'm looking forward to a return visit in a year or so. Highly recommended.

The Barn went completely vegan in January 2008 and Richard, one of our bloggers and owner of the Barn, tells us he has been busier than ever.

I've stayed at The Barn twice now and couldn't recommend it more. The food is great, the accommodation is lovely and the owners are very welcoming. It's so nice to be able to get a decent cooked Vegan breakfast.

We were looking for a veggie Guest House and this time choose The Barn which was one of the best choices we have ever made. The food was really imaginative, seasonal and tasty. Richard and Sandra were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome. They set us all a very good example of how to live a 'green lifestyle' Looking forward to returning one day.

From their website:

'The Barn' provides exclusively vegetarian guest house accommodation in the beautiful New Forest, Hampshire. Situated within the recently designated New Forest National Park, the house is an Edwardian property which we have refurbished over the past three years. It is full of character and the occasional eccentricity.....

We offer our guests a restful stay with easy access for walking, cycling and visits to the south coast. Southampton is only 5 miles away and 'The Barn' can easily be reached by road and rail. As well as B&B, guests can opt for three course evening meals, catering for vegetarian, vegan and all other meat-free diets. Wherever possible we use locally grown and organic produce without GMOs.

Highly recommended, great location with easy access to all parts of the New Forest. Food was top notch and hospitality was second to none. Glad I saved on my carbon emissions and decided to holiday in England this year.

Good to know going eco-friendly doesn 't compromise any luxuries.

My partner has very particular dietary needs at present, based on a vegan, no bread diet, whereas I am not so restricted. However, Richard and Sandra made us a really imaginative and superb 3 course dinner, with very fresh ingredients, plus a varied and interesting breakfast too. Not only that, they are wonderfully welcoming as well as being very discreet on balancing care and service with guest privacy ... Absolutely excellent experience.
